Ethanol, Schmethanol: El Mistako Muy Grande

Great article. Ethanol is !#@!@#$, while butanol is where it's at. In addition to BP, ButylFuel LLC is also working toward that goal. It's the best of all worlds, in that you can pretty much run today's cars on it and tomorrow's cars will actually run better once automakers tune engines to run on it.

Butanol may be the lesser of two evils when compared to ethanol. However using current methods of production neither is going to provide any short or long term benefit to anyone anywhere (except those on the receiving end of government subsidies.)

If there were no government subsidies for ethanol (or butanol) production could it compete in the free market?

Maybe we should all be heating with corn instead of using it to drive with.
