Weather Supercomputer Predicts Climate Change, But Ironically It's One of Britain's Worst Polluters

The machine pictured above was hailed as the 'future of weather prediction' with the ability to produce more accurate forecasts and produce climate change modelling. However, the Met Office has now been named as one of the worst buildings in Britain for pollution - responsible for more than 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year. It says 75% of its carbon footprint is produced by the super computer, meaning the machine is officially one of the country's least green machines. Green campaigners say it is "ironic" that a computer designed to help stave-off climate change is responsible for such high levels of pollution.

Reminds me of Obama's trip from DC to Chicago to Phoenix to Denver on a 747-B just to sign his first bill, the spendulus bill, at some eco-friendly boondoggle. Biden didn't even planepool with him.

Hmmm, sounds a bit like Al Gore syndrome in action...

I can't believe they actually say "...worst buildings in Britain for pollution".

What about a full sports stadium then? That would probably swamp this computer for "pollution". Tons of electricity in use and all those warm biological things just spewing CO2 and other gases.

Has real pollution become so rare that they're rating a high CO2 producer as "one of the worst"?

I would not under estimate the ability of a machine like that to out-pollute a full sports stadium, lights and all. Sports stadiums are operating for a few short hours a couple times a week. This monster is cranking away 24/7.

High end computers use a lot of energy. A decent gaming rig probably has the highest energy costs in the home.

Since CO2 isn't a pollutant or a problem, there is nothing to this story, simply more alarmism by a facile ecofascist.

Anon(1), to be comparable, you have to consider the year or longer chain of processes to feed those people and manufacture those souvenirs. Cows are said to be worse than cars overall.

But I'm really quibbling with putting CO2 into the pollution category. People drink carbonated drinks all the time. Why don't they insist their drinks not contain the "pollutant" CO2?

Its all about the money the governments that buy into this pseudo science can extort from its citizens in the faux attempt to drop this alledged pollution to lower levels...
