Quote of the Day: Diversity Creed

"It should be remembered that diversity creed holds that we are all equal and would be proportionately represented by race across all activities but for the fact of discrimination and oppression."

Mr. Williams is one of the "common sense" driven economists. It is always a pleasure to here his thoughts in this upside down economy. Reminder - common sense is not common.

Ah, "equality of outcome."

Not to get all controversial-like, but abortion and the NBA and NFL come to mind as obviously skewed outcomes regarding which no one dare utter a peep...

Except for professional sports and Ethnic Studies departments.

Bosh,

You beat me to mentioning those exact issues. Planned Parenthood has clearly targeted minority areas. And several professional sports venues are anything but equally diverse.

It is axiomatic that different individuals have different strengths and weaknesses. And the observation from professional sports suggests that certain strengths and weaknesses appear more often in certain ethnic groups.

Liberals may try to deny this, but they can only do so by sticking their heads in the sand which is something some of them have a habit of doing anyway.

We are all equal in the eyes of God. And, we should all be equal before the law. Beyond that, equality is a lie. Every single individual has certain strengths and weaknesses and should be judged as MLK said, ... by the content of their character ...

The problem with liberalism (or perhaps more accurately leftism) is that people are defined as members of groups instead of as individuals.

i find the "diversity creed" to be a silly "world is flat" kind of argument. it sounds sensible, but bears absolutely no resemblance to reality as it utterly ignores cultural issues.

if ethnic group A prizes education, drives its children to excel in school, and teaches saving and investment as a way to get ahead, they will outperform ethnic group B that couldn't care less about education and spends all its money on designer clothes and flashy cars as soon as they get it.

this has everything to do with cultural norms and nothing to do with racism.

Always a pleasure to read Dr. Williams. He is a refreshing voice in a world of insanity.

The whole idea of valuing "Diversity" in this sense is repugnant to me because it assumes that certain types of groups (races, ethnicity, sexes) share certain characteristics, so representatives of each of these groups will bring something that is good. For example, it assumes that one white person is the same as another, or that one woman is the same as another. That is just repulsive. It fails to appreciate that every human being is different and brings something special to the table. It is impossible not to have diversity when more than one person is involved in a given endeavor.

"Representation" is a funny thing, since there is only ONE of me. I can't be everywhere at once, so I won't be represented in all activities. I refute the idea that a white male represents me merely because he is a white male (as am I).

I prefer the ideal of inclusion over that of diversity. We should be accepting and include people who are different from us, regardless of sex, race or ethnicity.

Opinion diversity is a generally a good idea, depending on the context, but this is rarely what people have in mind when discussing 'diversity'.

It is time we started judging people by the character (as indicated by their actions) and not by the color of their skin, their particular arrangement of genitalia, or ethnic background. I am a bit disappointed in Doctor Williams, perhaps the context of his comment will make it more appealing to me.

You missed Gender Studies departments.

No diversity there, either.

Monobrows, monoblocks and monothoughts.

The only new meaning to be found is in the homophony of the term "mono a mono"...

You forgot sneakers. They do like to spend way too much money for fancy Keds and Docksiders.
